In graduate school now for American Studies, I read the entire book for my introduction to the Literature of American Studies class. No trivia or quizzes yet. I understand why the author decided to focus on New York and men's experiences, but I really wanted to know about other locations, such as in the west, and about women's experiences. Above all, Gay New York shows that our most intimate sexual identities are stunningly recent creations. It covers nearly the same time period as Chauncey's, and it's interesting to compare Berlin's evolving gay culture with New York's.
